Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer modes revealed

Currency, gambling and AI bots added to franchise

World at War developer expands online features

Activision has revealed a number of multiplayer features in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops.

In an event at Los Angeles, details were unveiled about the game’s online modes and unlock structure. Black Ops forgoes the level/time-based unlocking of previous games and introduces CoD points (CP) – currency to spend on perks and weapons.

As well as winning matches, players can also earn CP by gambling. The “wager match” adds four new ways to play, each encouraging players to gamble their precious currency points on ever-greater rewards.

CoD: World at War developers Treyarch has also implemented a “combat training” feature, allowing players to fight against AI-controlled bots in an attempt to wean the 30-40% of players who never venture online into the fold.

New weapons, perks and loadouts are par for the course, but there’s no word as yet on any zombie mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops is scheduled for UK release on the 9th November.
