UK's first AppJam took place in Dundee and the top prize for Best Overall App went to iGiveaDam, a blood donor app. This app, the judges felt, could change the way blood is donated.
The contest involved a 48-hour challenge to produce a new phone app. The winning app allows blood donors to connect via social media and reminds them when they can give blood next. In addition the app guides the user towards their closest blood donation centre and sends out general public announcements.
According to the organisers, the app has attracted interest from international firms who might publish it for overseas locations.
Thirteen teams took part in the competition to produce a winning app.
The winners are set to get the latest Nokia handsets and a year's subscription to lynda.com, an online training organisation.
