Sketchy screen shots show Android compatibility, no BES.
It may only have been around for a few short months, but Chinese tech site maxpda.com are claiming to have photos of the next generation OS for the BlackBerry PlayBook: the pithily-named BlackBerry Tablet OS 2.0.
What can we divine from these shots of the new OS? Well, first of all it doesn't look - for now at least - like the new Tablet OS 2.0 will let PlayBook users sync with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which is bad news for any corporate-types who use the platform to access work e-mail on the go. However, we've got no indication that these pics are of the final build of the OS, so there's no need to start picketing RIM's headquarters just yet.
More interestingly, one of the screenshots (above right) shows what looks like an Android icon (second row down, first on the left). There's been a lot of speculation that RIM's boffins have been toiling to add support for Android apps to its BlackBerry devices - could this be what we've been waiting for? You'll hear more when we do.
