BlackBerry 4G PlayBook unveiled

Lightning fast US version of tablet unveiled

Slate will work on Sprint network across the pond.

The BlackBerry PlayBook still hasn’t been pegged for release, but that’s not stopped RIM from outing a spanking new version. Dubbed the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook, it’s set to land on US network Sprint, using the company’s 4G network to deliver speeds around 10 times faster than standard 3G.

Other than the speedy 4G skills, everything else is the same as the forthcoming BlackBerry PlayBook. There’s a 1GHz processor, BlackBerry Tablet OS, Flash 10.1 support and 1GB of RAM.

RIM will only say that the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook is out this summer, meaning US gadgeteers could have a lengthy wait on their hands. A UK version is unlikely, with 4G networks still some way off on these shores.

We’ll be getting some hands-on time with the regular BlackBerry PlayBook at CES this week, so stay tuned to our CES microsite for vids and pics.
