BBC iPlayer on the Wii has been available since April 2008, but the original suffered from a buggy interface, which the BBC hope to have fixed.
There are six million Nintendo Wiis in UK homes, according to research company Chart Track GfK. BBC is also testing out the iPlayer on Freesat in the coming months, expanding its user base even further. Meanwhile Channel Four announced in October that it intended to provide its programs for free via YouTube in the future.
This relaunch follows hot on the heels of Sky Player’s debut on the Xbox 360 which has had difficulties of its own. Microsoft were forced to temporarily suspend the service soon after launch citing “unprecedented levels of simultaneous demand”.
With the iPlayer now available on the PS3 and Wii, it seems as though Microsoft is the only ones missing out on the fun.
