Asus Transformer Book teased at IFA

Windows 8 notebook/tablet combo demoed

The Asus Transformer book is what Asus claims to be the first convertible notebook, switching between a tablet and a netbook very much in the style of the original Transformer.

The differences are key, however, as the new device runs standard Intel chipsets (likely to be available in i3, i5 and i7 iterations at launch), as well as Windows 8 OS.

Asus has kept tight-lipped about detailed specs, but confirmed that there will be SSD and HD options available at launch, along with screen sizes from 17.6 to 11.6.

The model we got a brief preview of at IFA 2012 was very similar to the Transformer, down to the same tablet detachment mechanism, but sporting a slightly deeper keyboard module.

UK distribution is yet to be confirmed, but Asus gave an unofficial UK launch date of Q2 2013.
