ASUS readies the £160 Eee Box
Cheap as (computer) chips
The Eee Box from ASUS didn't exactly set the world alight on its launch, even with a price tag comparable to the average netbook. So it's trying again - for an even lower price.
Yes, the days of PCs being given away are rapidly approaching as ASUS plans to knock out its Eee Box for a paltry £160, throwing in a boost in storage from 80GB to 120GB as an added bonus. Is there a catch? Well yes - it's also ditched the Intel Atom processor, replacing with a Celeron 220. If you can't live with that, the original should still be around, selling for just over £200.
ASUS is obviously confident about its cut-price strategy, with around a million Eee Box PCs being shipped in 2009. Watch out for one being stuck to your copy of the Sunday Times this time next year.
