Asus Eee touchscreen desktop PC hits the UK

A final flogging of that dead horse

This time last year, we were all jostling to get our hands on a new concept - the budget netbook. And Asus was head of the pack with its Eee PC. Fast forward 12 months and we're at market saturation, not least from Asus itself. Time to stop? Not a chance.

The Eee brand has now shifted into the desktop market, with the Asus Eee ETP1602-WT-X0010 touch screen available for pre-order. Why an 'Eee'? Well, it's made by Asus, it has a 1.6GHz Atom processor and it's cheap. Aside from that, this is a very different beast, with its touchy 15.6-inch interface, along with 1GB of memory, 160GB hard drive, Wi-Fi, 1.3MP webcam, stereo speakers and all the connectivity you can eat. Windows XP (as you might expect) is the OS.

The keyboard and mouse provided probably just makes that touch screen nothing more than a fingerprint magnet, but if you like the novelty, you can pre-order now from play for £399.99, with a November delivery date slated.
