Apple TV sales top the 2 million units milestone

Apple's hobby project takes off with strong sales

2 million Apple TV units sold in opening six months

Following its September rejig that saw Apple’s pet project take on a credible and desirable form the new Apple TV box has sold more than 2 million units, new reports suggest.

Having topped the 1 million sales milestone within three months of launch shortly before last year’s Christmas period, sales of the £99 content streaming device are now claimed to have surpassed the 2 million unit mark.

The figures, which come courtesy of Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at Concord Securities who compiled the numbers have trawled a host of Apple supplies, show quarterly sales of the slimmed-down, hard drive scrapping device have remained strong six months on since its official arrival.

Allowing users to stream purchasable content direct from iTunes and the store’s third party applications, the inclusion of AirPlay compatibility allows owners of multiple iOS devices, iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches, to send self sourced and self produced video content direct to their TVs.
