Apple sued over alleged iPhone defects

Hairline cracks and dodgy 3G cited

In a tale reminiscent of David and Goliath, Nassau County resident Avi Koschitzki is taking Apple to court over the iPhone, looking for some answers about the alleged problems with 3G reception and hairline cracks in the casing.

The cracks have been reported widely, more specifically in white models than the black. It's not good for cosmetic reasons (unless you like a random mosaic) and it's also not good for a working phone. Basically, if moisture gets into the inner sanctum of the handset, you can kiss goodbye to your favourite toy. And then there's the 3G, the complainant claiming that both the 3G chipset and the AT&T 3G network in the US are not up to the job, certainly not offering twice the speed of the old model on a consistent basis.

If Koschitzki is successful in proving that Apple 'allowed the defectively designed Iphones to be sold to the public' despite prior knowledge of any flaws, it could mean a seriously big financial hit for the company. And who knows - possibly the mother of all product recalls. Although forcing them out of people's hands could be a whole new issue.
