The iPad is set to continue its domination of the smartphone space until at least 2013. That’s according to new research from IHS Suppli, which says that even after that date, Apple will hold a huge slice of the market.
The research company says the lack of any serious major rival means that by the end of 2011, Apple will have around 74 per cent of the tablet market. The same researchers said earlier this year that Apple would have 64 per cent, but that, “The competition can’t seem to field a product with the right combination of hardware, marketing, applications and content to match up with the iPad.”
By 2013, Apple will only just be ahead as rivals club together to take over, says IHS Suppli. But even then it claims Apple will sell 120 million iPads in 2015, taking around 43 per cent of the market. Considering the fragmented nature of other systems, that means the iPad will still be the single most popular tablet out there.
