Apple has once again proven that despite its mobile market prowess it is still more than capable of shining on the computer front with the MacBook Air proving victorious at the T3 Gadget Awards 2011

Apple has triumphed at the 2011 T3 Gadget Awards with the newly updated and redesigned MacBook Air taking top honours as the Computer of the Year.

Coming up against huge competition the Apple MacBook Air’s sleek design and powerful punch combined to topple its competitors, a list which included Alienware’s portable powerhouse the M17X and the super svelte Samsung Series 9 notebook.

Showing that minimalism is the way of the future Apple has managed to cram even more into the MacBook Air for 2011 with both the 11 and the 13-inch models being powered by Intel’s zippy Core i5 and i7 dual-core processors.

With the option of bumping up the memory to an impressive 4GB of RAM and with a SSD storage drive of up to 128GB available, this year’s Apple MacBook Air is almost twice as fast as the previous generation and still as eye-catchingly beautiful.

With minimal design changes to the latest generation Air, a unibody casing hewn from a single sheet of brushed aluminium means that Apple’s ultra-portal laptop is stronger than ever before whilst cutting down on excessive weight.

The inclusion of a backlit keyboard makes the Air as functional as its larger formed, higher speccde Pro siblings whilst the addition of a Thunderbolt port brings the slimline device on par with its high transfer rate capable brethren.

Despite Apple questioning the need for laptops with the recent introduction of the iPad, a device which brought new life to the tablet scene, the MacBook Air has proven there is room for both devices.

“A hands-down winner,” said Emma Barnett, Digital Media Editor at the Telegraph and T3 Gadget Awards 2011 judge. “It’s better than a tablet. I’m a grown up, I can cope without my apps.”
