Apple launch iAd Gallery despite previously declining Ad based apps
Apple has officially launched an app that allows users to browse the variety of advertisements running through the company’s iAds system without the pesky distraction of further content.
Entitled iAd Gallery, Apple’s latest app release offers iOS users no further functionality than to browse iAd advertisements despite having previously rejected the Ads Tubs app, a third party iPhone application which offered similar ad-only content and was deemed by the Cupertino tech giant as offering “not enough user functionality.”
Whilst iAds reportedly have a higher than average click through rate, an entire application dedicated to nothing other than interactive advertisements seems a stretch too far, even for Apple, a company that has repeatedly surprised markets with user uptake of a variety of products and services.
Available now in the US app store Apple’s official product describtion describes the iAD Gallery as “A celebration of advertising, featuring iAd campaigns from some of the world’s best brands and their advertising agencies.”
It goes on to add: “ The iAd Gallery gives you easy access to a selection of the fun and informative ads that have run in some of your favorite apps. Use the Browse feature to discover ads you haven’t seen, or to find those you want to see again. Even lets you tag your favorites to a Loved section that’s all your own.”
