Apple iPod event confirmed for 9th September
New iPods, iTunes and possibly a touchscreen tablet?
As is customary for the Californian company, Apple has sent around brightly-hued invitations to members of the press, proclaiming an event for next Wednesday, the 9th of September.
September is usually the month they usher in new iPod models, with last year's event debuting the "nanochromatic" iPod nanos and second-gen iPod Touch.
As you can see from Apple's event image to the right, next week's announcement looks set to be a new range of iPods, with the slogan "it's only rock and roll, but we like it". No further details are known about the event, however we'll be treated to a live link-up to California, where (with any luck) Steve Jobs will take to the stage.
As we've been reporting for months, a touchscreen tablet appears to be on the horizon, however Apple might save that for a further event closer to Christmas. Apple Insider is claiming that new iPods and iPod Touches will be unveiled, each sporting a 3.2-megapixel camera for picture-snapping and video recording.
In addition to new iPods, the latest version of iTunes is also rumoured to be shown off, enabling deeper access to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Could we soon be updating our friends on Facebook with what song we're listening to on iTunes, with a link to buy the track? All shall be revealed next Wednesday.
