Apple iPhone 4 goes on sale in the UK

Queues for fourth-gen smartphone as long as ever

A 32-hour wait doesn't pay off for second placed Alex.

The Apple iPhone 4 has gone on sale in the UK this morning with thousands of fans nationwide queueing around the block to be among the first to get their hands on the latest and greatest iPhone.

Massive lines were present at the Apple Store on Regent Street, naturallly, while all three O2 stores on Oxford Street saw a massive array of folks waiting to upgrade their contracts at the earliest available opportunity. We've saved you the trouble of queuing in order to get a sneak peek - check out our iPhone 4 review video here.

This is the first time that a new iPhone has gone on sale in the US and the UK at the same time, meaning Brits have snagged the device before our Stateside companions, due to the 5-8 hour time difference across the Atlantic.

However, one North American citizen who queued at the Apple Store was left unfulfilled after only being the second man to pick up the device, despite being the first in the queue and undertaking a 32-hour wait for the iPhone 4.

Alex Lee, 23, who was beaten into second place by a fellow who had waited half the time, as a result of Apple moving the queues around, says he plans to vent his fury by emailing Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

He told TechRadar: "I've been approached by media asking me why I'm not the first person in today and I don't have an answer, because I've been queuing for a lot longer than anyone else.

"My only thing is that I can't do anything about it now, but if you don't like what you've seen then emailing Steve Jobs is a good way of getting hold of someone that matters."

We'll have hands-on pictures and videos of the device today, and keep your eyes peeled for a full review of what threatens to be the best iPhone yet.
