iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch get iOS 4.2 update
Apple has officially announced the arrival of its latest mobile OS update, iOS 4.2, which is set to bring multitasking capabilities and folder management to the iPad.
Available for download later today, other notable additions to the iPad of the reported “100 new features from iOS 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2” include the arrival of AirPrint, AirPlay, a unified email inbox and Game Center whilst iPhone and iPod Touch users are set to receive a number of glitch fixes.
“iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs in the official iOS 4.2 release. “Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit.”
As we reported earlier, the iOS 4.2 update, which users will be able to download for free by syncing their iOS compatible devices to iTunes 10.1 is expected to be switched live at 1PM Eastern Time, 6PM UK, in keeping with Apple’s infamously predictable routines.
AirPrint will allow iPhone and iPad users to print wirelessly from their devices to a selection of AirPrint enabled printers whilst AirPlay will transform user’s iDevices into wireless streamers for Apple TV.
