iOS App News: EA launches bonkers annual Christmas sale
Electronic Arts has launched a massive festive sale with top titles like FIFA 12, Madden 12, Monopoly and Scrabble available for just 69p on the App Store. The company has done the same in previous years as it seeks to dominate the Christmas app charts.

Android App News: OnLive comes to Xperia Play
Sony's plans for a PlayStation Phone may not have done as planned, but the control-pad equipped handset may have a new lease of life thanks to the OnLive cloud-based gaming app. Now, instead of PSP ports the handset can make use of console-quality titles that can be played over Wi-Fi. It gives the device a fighting chance. Still no sign of the iPad app though.

iPad App News: Amazon updates Kindle app
Amazon has upgraded its Kindle app for iPad to help it compete with Apple's own Newsstand functionality. The new iOS app also boasts an improved, dedicated PDF reader and a Personal Documents Service. Not content with cutting into the iPad's market share, it seems Amazon wants to fight Apple on its very own device.

Xbox LIVE App News: 4oD and Demand 5 land
Microsoft has continued its bid to make the Xbox 360 the ultimate entertainment portal by rolling out the 4oD and Demand 5 apps for Xbox LIVE members. The company will launch a BBC iPlayer app in the new year.

Facebook App News: Android daily usage overtakes iPhone
In the tit-for-tat battle between the world's two most dominant smartphone platforms, Android scored some points over iPhone this week with another victory over iPhone. Facebook for Android now has 58.8m daily active users, while the iPhone has 57.6. It's close, but Android is now on top.
