Anonymous targets paedophiles in online campaign

Anonymous has launched Operation PaedoChat, an online campaign designed to shut down sites used by paedophiles to trade illegal images

Anonymous is targeting paedophiles – more specifically, it’s declared war on underground sites where the trading of illegal images is rife.

The hacker group, whose members have fallen foul of the law several times, announced their Operation PedoChat campaign via a video posted on YouTube.

Names and email addresses of several alleged users of such sites have been posted on the Pastebin website – and Anonymous are calling on the public to do their bit by putting pressure on both the government and media to help shut down such sites.

The speaker in the video said: “Anonymous aim to diminish if not eradicate this plague from the internet.

“For the good of our followers, for the good of mankind, and for our own enjoyment we shall expel from the internet and systematically destroy any such boards that continue to operate.”

The sites, which are used by paedophiles to chat and exchange images, sometimes for cash, are usually hidden, so most ordinary internet users cannot find them.

Previously, the collective claimed to have shut down about 40 websites where such activity was taking place.

“Anonymous recognises this as a serious undertaking and do not expect it to be completed in a short period of time,” the Anonymous member said.

“Factions of Anonymous from all over the globe are participating in sub-operations. Information on paedophiles is being gathered and released.”
