Rovio has announced on its blog that an update for Angry Birds Space is in the pipeline, which references the recent NASA mission to Mars.
On their company blog, Rovio said "The piggies have hijacked the Curiosity Mars Rover -- but instead of searching for ice crystals, they're looking for eggs!
"Dodge explosive volcanoes and fire asteroids as you blast through 20 fiery levels! Say hello to the brand new astronaut pig! And find three hidden rover landers to open special bonus levels and discover more about the NASA missions!"
The Red Planet update will be made available for the iOS and Android platforms.
Angry Birds Space: Red Planet is scheduled for release this autumn, and if series' past entries are anything to go by, it's likely to keep the Angry Birds faithful glued to their smartphones for hours on end. Rovio launched Angry Birds in Space in March of this year and it was downloaded 50 million times in 35 days.
