iPhone game hit officially launches for Android
The full version of Angry Birds for Android is now available to download for free on mobile app store GetJar.
Making the leap from iPhone to Android, developers Rovio chose GetJar ahead of the Android Market to be the first place to be able to download the mobile gaming hit for nothing.
On choosing GetJar, the second largest mobile app store, Peter Vesterbacka, Mighty Eagle at Rovio Mobile said it was an "obvious choice" adding, “GetJar's global reach and popularity as well as their unique App It! download service ensures that we reach a massive audience of fanatically loyal Angry Birds addicts. The unique App It! link means we can also cross promote our Symbian and Android versions without the need to send folks to multiple places to get their favorite game."
Angry Birds on the iPhone has been downloaded over 5 million times from the Apple App Store, with the aim of the game being to catapult fire winged creatures with anger issues, and smashing them through a host of tricky targets to annihilate what's inside them.
Android gamers have had to make do with the Angry Bird Lite version which was launched last month, offering just 15 levels to play through. The full version will pack 150 levels in total (before further updates), with the first 15 being different from those in the Lite version.
This latest coup from GetJar follows closely on from its latest scheme to offer free premium mobile games to Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, iPhone and Symbian users.
