Android paid apps head to the UK
Write an app, make loads of cash
If you've so far been underwhelmed with the downloads available on your Google G1 handset, you might be slightly more impressed with the second wave of titles. But there is a catch - you'll need to pay for them.
Yes, paid apps are heading to Android, with the UK and US slated as the first countries to benefit. According to Google's Eric Chu, the Android market 'will support priced applications starting early Q1 2009'. Which is pretty much now. That should see a bump in quality, particularly for gaming, with the likes of Gameloft and EA Mobile readying titles worthy of your attention and cash. And if you have a bit of coding skill yourself, you can also benefit from this particular gravy train - as long as someone buys your work.
Google is also bringing 'localisation' to the market, which in effect means country-specific apps. We're not sure how this will pan out, but we just might see games revolving around overly packed trains, Primark, Kerry Katona, the X Factor and Amy Winehouse before the year is out. Let's hope not.

sounds like a great idea, only problem being that Google can't get their checkout systmes working properly. Their 'support' system is by way of a forum (only!) which is FLOODED with angry users who's experience so far of paying for Google Apps has been a disaster, mine included! Weels and months have passed for some trying to purchase apps with no response from the Google team. The problem seems to be the purchase (via the Android Market on the handset) 'sticks' at Authorising Credit Card and never seems to move past this. Google seem to charge (some) people's cards but the app itself is never purchased/unlocked.
