Google's mobile operating system Android is narrowing the gap on fierce rival Apple with new reports revealing there are now more than 400,000 apps in the Android Market.

Whilst Apple's iOS App Store surpassed the 400,000 app milestone in June 2011 before rocketing past the half a million mark Android's lax vetting policy and open source nature has seen the Google OS's app offering increase at a faster rate.
