Android app news: SlingPlayer for Honeycomb tablets launched
Sling Media, the company behind the Slingbox set-top box, which allows you to view content from your own TV package on connected devices has launched an app for tablets boasting the Android Honeycomb operating system.
The SlingPlayer app has spread its wings beyond Android phones to offer its service to any tablet boasting Android 3.0, opening the door for users of the Motorola Xoom, Sony Tablet S and P and of course the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The app, which will cost users in the UK a one-off fee of £20.99, will give you full access to your home Sky+, Virgin Media, BT Vision, Freeview and Apple TV content if your set-top box connected to a Slingbox SOLO or Slingbox PRO HD
You'll even be able to change channels and control content you've recorded on your DVR's hard-drive and sling media says that this iteration of the app arrives with a new remote control feature that pulls up an exact replica of the remote you have at home.
So, effectively, you can switch channels, record shows and browse the TV guide in the same way you would if you were sitting in your favourite easy chair.
If you've already downloaded the Slingbox app for Android phones, it will continue to work in compatibility mode on your tablet device. The SlingPlayer for Honeycomb tablets app joins the iPad version released in late 2010.
