Amazon slashes MP3 prices to celebrate 5 million songs
Songs from as little as 29p each and albums from £3
With all the talk about Spotify joining forces with 7Digital and nipping at the heals of the current daddy of MP3s, iTunes, there has been little mentioned of Amazon UK's venture into the MP3 download war. But that may be about to change as Amazon rallies up a serious charge to challenge the top.
Whilst iTunes and Spotify have been fighting it out, Amazon has stealthily built up its music library by adding around 10,000 DRM-free tracks per day since their launch in December 2008. It's now reached the 5 million song mark and has decided to celebrate by offering over 100 of its top-selling MP3s for as a little as 29p each. Songs being given away for the price of a lollypop include Lady Gaga's ‘Poker Face’and the Pet Shop Boys' 'Love etc'.
"Since our launch just four months ago, we have been presenting our customers with some great deals on MP3s whilst rapidly expanding our catalogue and we will continue to do so going forward," Julian Monaghan, Head Music Buyer at Amazon.co.uk claimed.
With some of its top albums priced from around £3 and singles at 59p since launch, Amazon joins the strong arm of iTunes rivals vying for a slice of the music download pie.
