The Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, the online media giant's oft-speculated iPad challenger, has been causing a stir in recent weeks with boatloads of Amazon tablet rumours doing the rounds online and talk of a super-low price point at launch.
The rumour mill went into overdrive on Friday when Amazon sent out media invitations to an event in New York on September 28th. While the invites say nothing of what attending press can expect, the popular wisdom floating around the web is that this will be the announcement of Amazon's first foray into the tablet market, with an Android-powered, ten-inch model looking the most likely bet.
An Android-powered Amazon tablet would make good sense for Amazon, which recently launched its own Android app market on its website. As with its current Kindle e-readers, this would make Amazon a one-stop shop for its tablet customers, offering music, film, ebooks from the Kindle Store and apps from its app store.
