Amazon continues to improve the user experience on its Kindle Fire HD tablets with a trio of new apps available in the latest software update
Amazon Kindle Fire HD update brings Camera app and Swype
Amazon has unleashed a new software update for its hugely popular Kindle Fire HD tablet, bringing a Camera app as well as the Swype keyboard app into play.
The new camera app allows users to take stills photos with the Kindle Fire HDs front-loaded webcam and save them to a photos library. The addition of Swype, a huge hit on Android smartphones, makes it easier to accurately type words simply by dragging a single finger between letters on the keyboard.
Alongside these handy additions is the recently-announced Kindle FreeTime Unlimited service. This is a new monthly subscription service that loads the tablet with child-friendly books, TV shows, movies and games without the need to download addition content.
Software update 7.2.2 will be automatically downloaded over-the-air, although Kindle Fire owners can initiate it by hitting the Sync button in the top menu. Tethering it via USB will also summon the new software.
