Amazon adds barcode scanner to iPhone app

Amazon undercuts high street from inside own stores

New iOS4 app adds in barcode scanner functionality

Amazon has given customers yet another reason to buy online by adding a barcode scanner to its official iPhone app.

A new tab below the "Search Amazon.com" field allows users to scan a barcode from within the store and compare prices with the online retailer.

This isn't the first time we've seen barcode scanners, of course, they've been around since the first Android phones and many of which showed results from Amazon, but this is the first time a retailer has encorporated a scanner into its app.

The new version of the is fully featured and it available to download for free on all devices running iOS4.
