Acer to bring Gingerbread to the table(t) party

Acer is to plant its flag in the rapidly growing tablet market following the announcement that it will launch a trio of Android 3.0 devices by the end of the year with 5, 7 and 10-inch screens.

Other than the fact that Acer is to produce the tablets from scratch with Google’s upcoming Android 3.0 operating system, codenamed Gingerbread, little is known about the hardware or the specifications of the upcoming iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab rival.

Expected to release the range of tablets in time for the festive period, Acer is reportedly currently deliberating between how much oomph to give its tablets with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon and Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processing chips topping the computer company’s wish list.

With the tablet market still in its relative infancy and Android powered devices seemingly added on a weekly basis the Acer offerings look set to target all corners of the tablet scene from the smartphone bothering 5-inch models to the Galaxy Tab sized 7-inch device all the way up to an iPad rivalling 10-inch edition.
