Acer AspireRevo is PC and console hybrid

Games machine and PC hides behind your telly

Acer describes the AspireRevo as 'a revolution in your multimedia entertainment'. We wouldn't go that far on first impressions, but it's certainly a very interesting piece of kit.

It's being pitched as a PC and gaming console in one - and a PC that isn't going to look out of place in your living room. Indeed, the AspireRevo can fix to the back of a screen or TV via VESA, so your mates wouldn't even know it was there. Until you wanted to play a spot of Wii-like gaming that is, but more on that later. Let's look at the PC aspect.

It's a nettop+ if you like, packing the Intel Atom 230 processor and an Nvidia Ion graphics processor that combine to offer low power consumption and a graphics capability on a par with your average multimedia PC, 10x faster than small desktop PCs says Acer. Using Windows Vista as its operating system, 4GB of memory and all the connectivity (including Wi-Fi) you would ever need, the AspireRevo can obviously do just about everything that your average home PC can do, as well as being good for viewing 1080p HD movies (using the HDMI connector) and playing DirectX 10 games. And talking of games...

The AspireRevo is also available in a bundle that comes with a game controller with 3D motion sensors, able to be used as a remote control or mouse, but also as an airplane/race-car steering device, a tennis racket/baseball bat or a shooting device with built-in trigger. It certainly gives the AspireRevo a unique selling point, although we're not getting too excited until we get hands-on with both PC and controller.

When that will be isn't clear. Acer is being shy with both launch date and price so far, although the AspireRevo is certainly heading to the UK. We suspect late summer - and we should be all over it for a lowdown long before then.
