Acer Aspire Revo priced for UK

Living room computing for not a lot of cash

Based on first impressions, we thought the Acer Aspire Revo could well be a contender if the price was right. Well, that price has been announced and it's looking ok.

£179.99 will get you an entry-level PC/console hybrid at Play.com, which includes an Intel Atom N230 processor, Nvidia Ion graphics, a bundled keyboard and mouse, 1GB RAM, 8GB SSD for storage and Linux for your operating system. Obviously that also includes all the connectivity (including Wi-Fi) and option to slap it on the back of your TV. Stump up £249.99 and you can change the OS to Windows Vista Home Premium, upgrade to 2GB of memory and a 160GB hard drive. Nice, but the low-end options don't exactly fulfil the 'console' side of the bargain.

You'll need to pay £299.99 for that, picking up the 3D controller and 10 games of variable quality in return. The specification of the actual Aspire Revo is the same as the £249.99 model, so £50 for the games package in essence. Finally, if you're feeling flash with your cash, you can spend £329.99, which adds a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Whether the last price is anywhere near a good deal is hard to say as we've yet to get hands-on with the recently-announced Revo. But for a little more money, you can pick up a console and a netbook, which might well be a better way of splashing your cash.
