8GB Sony Walkman breaks cover

The NW-A1200 is due for launch in June. There'll be extra room for tunes, plus AAC playback!

Sony will be adding a new 8GB model to its range of Network Walkman digital audio players. The NW-A1200 will be the highest capacity model in the series (the NW-A1000 has a 6GB hard drive), but otherwise looks likely to share similar specs with existing models - including that impressive 20-hour battery life.

The player, which has been available in Japan for some time, will be shipped with Sony's newly announced SonicStage CP software, which incorporates support for the AAC music format used by the iPod. It's not yet confirmed that the NW-A1200 will play AAC files - but we'd be very surprised if it didn't.

There's no price as yet (they cost around £250 in Japan), but with the player launching in mid-June, it shouldn't be long until one turns up.
