7Digital aims at iTunes with new iPhone app
Company hoping that Apple app will join Android and BlackBerry versions
Music download portal 7Digital is hoping to go head-to-head with Apple on its own devices after submitting a rival to iTunes for the App Store's consideration.
7Digital, which already has an app for BlackBerry, today also announced its new Android application. It is hoping that the new, more relaxed stance of the App Store censors allows their iTunes-bating app to go live also.
At the London event, 7Digital outed an HTML5 mobile store, for easier downloading on smartphones, and announced that it is to be O2's official music partner.
A big day for the company, which sold a 50 per cent stake to HMV for £7.7m last year. We'll be keeping our eyes on the App Store in the hope that this one appears sooner rather than later.
