3 announces the faster, slimmer, all-round better S2 Skype phone

This time it's free and speedy

The little philanthropist monkeys at 3 just love giving stuff away. The latest in their "won't cost you a dime" range is the S2 Skype phone. They heard our cries of free Skype calls, free Skype texts and blazing internet access and presented us with this little bobby-dazzler.

Upgraded from the original 3 Skype phone, the S2 has been given the spit and shine treatment. Decked out its Sunday best of metal keys and steel back, it's more Louis Vuitton than the white plastic Primarni of its predecessor.

Scrolling through Google, Windows Live Messenger and el Face on the spanking new menu system and 2.2-inch screen is as easy as Bolt creaming the 100m sprint opposition. Snap pics of your self looking smug with the 3.2-megapixel camera, upped from the measly 2-megapixel on the decrepit S1.

If that doesn't wet your gadge tongue, it also doubles up as a dongle for your laptop and with the inbuilt HSDPA capability and speedy internet connection talks to your Skype mates for nowt. For those from the kleptomaniac school of saving stuff, there's 4GB of expandable memory. Tidy.

Although the calls to your Skype loving brethren are free, you will have to prise £2.50 from your moth-infested wallet a month for 5MB of data, or £5 for 10 MB. But if you're not arsed with tinterweb, it'll cost you no pennies at all.

Race down to your 3 store now and you may be disappointed, it's not in-store until the first of September but bag one online from today. Henceforth, Skype children!
