Sony's impeccably silvery zoomer hits a maximum 15x magnification and is HD-ready. Shell out for the right cable and you can delight friends by pointing out individual grains of sand in snaps from your Bondi beach holiday on your front room plasma. Springing to life in two seconds, the H9 focuses with the slightest touch of the shutter button. The three-inch LCD isn't as sharp as its rivals, but it's exceptionally bright and tilts for awkward shots. Image quality can be on the ropey side though, and with its plasticky build, it would get utterly spanked in an arm-wrestle with its metal faced competitors. But with excellent 1cm macro focus and self-explanatory NightShot and Face Detection modes it's still a very capable camera.
