Canon Digital IXUS I7 zoom
Snap in style
Like watches and phones before them, digital cameras have finally been promoted to the status of fashion accessories. Canon's latest 7.1-megapixel ultra-compact couldn't be trendier if it had a MySpace page dedicated to its own range of distressed "vintage" denim.
Like male supermodel Derek Zoolander, this semi-chromed, all-metal snapper is really, really good-looking, but simple. Available in a range of four chic colours, it has the bare minimum of confusing buttons, while Face Detection autofocus means beautiful people can be snapped without an excess of thought.
Its spec sheet is almost a size zero as well - just a skinny 2.4x optical zoom and an undersized, though bright, 1.8-inch LCD. In true model fashion, it's slow on the uptake too, taking several seconds to save snaps or change modes.
At least the images are worthy of the catwalk, with bold splashes of colour and vivid detail. However there is some distortion and the edges are about as sharp as a hessian suit.
This is a sleek, stylish imaging ornament, feature-light but with a big emphasis on style - make sure you keep a few quid aside to buy yourself that 10-megapixel SLR for what we like to call 'proper' photography.
