Panasonic VDR-M75 camcorder
Like Betamax, quality is top-notch but compatibly is a problem.
The biggest problem with Panasonic's DVD camcorders is that unlike Sony's DVD+/-RW models - and even Canon's debut DVD-RW units - Panny's DVD-RAM discs won't work in most home players. And this model's 2.5-inch screen is neither as sharp nor as sexy as the 2.7-inch widescreen LCD found on Sony's similarly priced DVD203. Video from the one-megapixel sensor is bright and very colourful, though, with only a sprinkling of jagged compression artefacts.
Low-light shooting is noisy - especially when compared to the Super NightShot mode on Sony's DVD203 - and the auto-everything controls soon get frustrating. Competent enough, but for DVD-RAM fans only.
