Sony HDR-UX7
Hollywood in a shiny silver box.
If you need another reason to buy a PS3, here you go: it offers instant Hi-Def playback of AVCHD discs. The UX7 records directly to standard DVD blanks, which is fabulous, at least until you realise you have to swap discs every 20 minutes. It also has a massive display, a huge 3.5-incher, that begs you to run your fingers across it. Navigating the touchscreen is a breeze, there's a 10x zoom and it's always fun to dive into extras such as NightShot shooting and 5.1 surround sound. The Sony delivers some of the best footage we've seen. Colours are vibrant, exposure is faultless and there's a world of detail to explore. Stills are large and bright, but colours are over-cooked and the autofocus is dodgy. Still, this is the best choice if you have a Blu-Ray player.
