This telly is 55 inches across, only 5mm deep, has next to no bezel and, with its Organic Light-Emitting Diode panel, looks very much like the future. Sure, OLED screens have been around for years, but never at this size in a consumer device – Sony’s trailblazing XEL-1 was only 11 inches, remember – and LG’s set brings with it “infinite” contrast, blink-of-the-eye response times, wide viewing angles and envious glares from the tragic possessors of older, dowdier sets.

It’s primed for an autumn or winter release; it will not be cheap but then that’s Early Adopter Tax (EAT) for you…
