Apple’s spokesdroids may have been sniffy about its software, but you can’t deny the raw appeal of the Amazon Kindle Fire. Offering a dual-core, seven-inch, pleasingly weighty Android tablet for under 200 bucks, its pricing isn’t so much aggressive as plain belligerent, and sales of between 4.5 million and six million in its first three months have been handsome reward.
As well as cost, the key here has been access to Amazon’s Apple-rivalling gamut of online stores, with films, music and, of course, ebooks all flying off the virtual shelves. The UK awaits it with bated breath…
