JVC DLA-HD1
Project beast
JVC's projector is a beast, so you'll either need to have it professionally mounted on your ceiling, or get a very sturdy shelf or an extremely strong wife.
Using JVC's own version of LCOS technology, which gene-splices DLP and LCD into a new race of X-Men-style projector-mutant, pictures have funereal blacks and incredibly vivid colours. However, images do tend to look a bit like the pixels are bleeding into each other.
Ye Olde standarde-deffe TV and DVDs look great, thanks to the excellent video processing, but on brightness, the HD1 isn't quite up there with what the French call the projecting "crème de la crème".
That said, it's very quiet and has a fair amount of lens shift, so is easy to set up. Unfortunately, its bulk and softer picture leave it narrowly trailing in the race to be crowned the ultimate 1080p projector.
