Toshiba 37XV505D
The telly that'll give you full HD on a budget
This is Full HD on a budget. Look online and you'll find it for a ton less, which is fair price for this no-frills package.
Reproducing a 1080p source pixel for pixel is its special skill, though behaviour with Blu-ray and games exposes its soft centre. Lack of fine detail is the big sacrifice for otherwise immaculate pictures. No jagged edges or serious motion blur here, though some colour banding is obvious.
Digital TV pics are watchable if a little dirty, but there's a hidden extra for Freeview fans: the TV automatically turns the volume down during the adverts.
Three HDMI inputs - including one on the TV's side for easy hook-up of a games console - helps make this a good value, good sounding set that nevertheless makes little of those extra pixels.
