Packard Bell 170 SW
Which PC maker's jumping on the telly bandwagon this month? Packard Bell, with its impressively cheap £600 17-inch LCD model.
Not quite as impressive is the styling, which isn't so much ugly as simply blander than recent Sharp and JVC beauties. For your modest outlay you get a 1,280 x 768- resolution screen, an analogue TV tuner, plus an analogue PC input, Scart, S-Video and composite connections.
Unlike Dell's rival W1700 (T3 97, 4/5), however, it doesn't have a DVI port. It works best as a PC monitor and is competent with fast-moving games and DVDs, but the contrast ratio's low, blacks are a bit pale and the sound is flat and lifeless.
