Jamo A102 HCS10 home cinema system
Home cinema that fits with your digital life.
At first glance, this latest home cinema package from great Danes Jamo looks like all the others. It's not, though. For added to the sleek main unit, the five cubic satellite speakers and hulking subwoofer are a useful USB connection and four-in-one memory card reader.
That means that you can stick in your USB key or card and listen to stored music files or view DivX videos and photos. We tried out a 192Kbps MP3 rip of the Arctic Monkeys' album and the quality was surprisingly good through the tiny speakers, while DivX test movie The Hunt played without a hitch.
The system is also a slick performer when it comes to playing DVDs. You don't get picture upscaling - there's no HDMI out, for starters - but the Scart and component video options provide a sharp, lively picture that should convince all but the pickiest of movie fans. Whether you're revisiting Amelie's cutesy colours or cowering from the Orc overload of Return of the King, you get bags of detail and faithful colour reproduction.
Although almost comically small in size, the five satellite speakers combine well with the booming sub to create genuinely engaging surround sound. You also get Dolby Pro Logic II processing, which converts basic stereo into surround sound - you haven't lived till you've watched Top Gear this way.
All in all, it's a sexy Scandinavian system with a USB twist that opens up a host of new viewing and listening options.
