Super Smash Bros Brawl

Smash and grab Mario mash up.

With more punch ups than a Millwall convention when the Lite Beer comes out, even if you hate fighting games you'll love Smash Bros Brawl. The premise is simple; launch a series of smash attacks and special movies to force your rival off the edge of the arena.

As well as Nintendo stalwarts Mario, Peach and Donkey Kong, Smash Bros has third-party characters like Solid Snake and Sonic. Each with as their special own moves to master, with Mario you can use Fireball, Cape and Super Jump Punch, culminating in the Mario Finale, the final smash. And for the first time four players can battle online. The single player Adventure mode is more of a platform game. It's fun, but fights aren't as satisfying as the arena, and it drags in places.

If we had to gripe we'd say the Wiimote (which you use like a traditional controller), doesn't add much. But Smash Bros is still a game you need to own, call us masochistic, but it's immensely satisfying to keep thwacking an opponent, so smash and grab your way to a copy now.
