Lenovo ThinkPad X1: 10 Reasons to buy

Slim, tough and powerful to boot, what's not to like...

A welcome improvement to the Thinkpad Edge, Lenovo's latest offering, the high-spec Thinkpad X1, boasts an impressive list of features. T3 unveils its favourites

Unlike the previous Thinkpad Edge, Lenovo is aiming the X1 squarely at the classier end of the laptop market by including Intel’s 2.5GHz Sandy Bridge processor, as also found in Apple's MacBook Pro.

Under the matte-black bodywork lurk some impressive specs: RAM expandable to 8GB, optional 160GB solid state drive, USB 3.0 and security features to protect your data from prying eyes. Add a tasty 13.3-inch, 1366x768 screen and wrap it all up in a magnesium roll cage and Gorilla tough glass and you have a powerful business laptop that’s built to, excuse our language, kick arse.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 details:

1/ Smart webcam

An integrated, light sensitive, HD webcam adjusts to provide a clearer image in dim conditions

2/ Wafer thin

This is Lenovo’s thinnest laptop yet, measuring in at just 16mm deep

3/ Quick start up

Enhanced Experience 2.0 for Windows 7 allows the X1 to boot up, on average, 20 seconds quicker than a standard Windows 7 PC

4/ Farewell dongle

Built-in 3G means the ThinkPad X1 is no longer in need of Wi-Fi hotspots and 3G dongles. You will need a data plan, though…

5/ Rapid charge

In a hurry? The Lenovo’s battery can be charged to 80 per cent in half an hour

6/ Go large

An HDMI output means you can connect the X1 to an HD TV or projector for deal-clinching presentations

7/ Security

Protection comes from a fingerprint reader and a TPM 1.3 chip that encrypts the data on your hard drive

8/ Support network

Struggling with technical issues? Calm down, dear. ThinkPlus Priority Support is on hand 24/7 to solve your X1 issues

9/ Roll with the punches

The X1’s screen is protected by toughened glass and its innards encased by a roll-cage. The keyboard is spill-resistant, too

10/ Performance

With a 2.5GHz Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor the X1 is powerful as well as tough
