After more than five years of training and preparation and two aborted attempts, Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner finally took to the sky and broke the sound barrier freefallling 24 miles from the Earth's upper atmosphere landing on his feet in triumph.
Reaching speeds of up to 833mph, Baumgartner aided by his Red Bull Stratos team also broke the record for the highest ever skydive and manned balloon flight as over 8 million people tuned into YouTube to see events unfold.
