Best Daily News apps for Apple iPad

The ways a person can get their news has come a long way from from newspapers, from the BBC to Sky News, T3 counts down the 10 best daily news apps for Apple's iPad 2

Apple’s tablet provides much more than a window to Facebook and finger-breaking gaming; the 10-inch iPad is perfect for delivering timely and detailed news directly to your lap, complete with video, infographics and crystal clear photos.

The Daily, an iPad newspaper app created by News Corp in conjunction with Apple, will be the first publication to use the tech juggernaut's upcoming subscription based app service. But what if you don't fancy finger-swiping through the pages of the Daily? Read on as T3 counts down the 10 best daily news apps for iPad.

1. BBC News
Price: Free
Following the revamp of its online news content the BBC has released its first news-based app for the iPad bringing fast, easy and free access to one of the world's most reputable news services. There's customisable sections, video and audio, and everything can be easily shared to your social media du jour with one click.

2. The Times
Price: £9.99 per month
It's costly at £9.99 per month, but for that Rupert Murdoch will personally give you a bump over the pay wall into a world of top end journalism and in-depth reports. We're still waiting for some extra features such as the daily crossword, but the rest - including video - is spot on.

3. The Sun
Price: £4.99 per month
Exclusive to iPad, this edition transfers The Sun's content into digital form and, unlike The Times' app, includes magazines and supplements for a paltry £5 every month. True, the aspirational iPad may not seem a fitting platform for the Sun's more 'banter'-driven news, but it must be the UK's best selling paper for a reason.

4. Pulse News
Price: £2.39
Steve Jobs' RSS reader of choice was first seen at the iPad's introduction in January and it's easy to see why. If there's one news app that really takes the iPad and thinks: "We can do something new with this", it's Pulse News. The reader allows you to choose up to 20 of your favourite online news feeds, which will then run separately in rows, continually updating with the latest news and allowing you to click on each for the full story.

5. New York Times

The New York Times was one of the first news apps shown off on the iPad when Jobs touted it in San Fran last year. It's soon to benefit from the incoming subscription system on the app store, but even without it it's a truly well-put together news service with over a year's experience under its belt. Pictures, video and audio integrate seamlessly with its professional layout.
