MW2 leaves GTA IV in the dust

We're running out of superlatives to describe the fever that has accompanied the release of Modern Warfare 2 so it's time to let the numbers do the talking.

The FPS, which became available to the public at midnight on Monday had, by Thursday morning, already smashed the one million units barrier in the UK, with 1.23 million the mind-blowing official total. Heaven knows what we'll be looking at after the weekend.

Worldwide the game is expected to gross (well, that's what the MPs call it, ba dum tish!) half-a-billion dollars in the first week alone, making it the single most successful entertainment product launch in history. That includes movies, that includes music and that includes the previous record holder Grand Theft Auto IV.

However some online, let's say 'liberators', have decided to go all Robin Hood on Activision after obviously deciding there's plenty of profit to go around. The game is now showing up in full on several of the major torrent sites, which could end up costing the company millions.
