GTA IV Week: The Multiplayer

Fancy having a shootout with the world? You can do it online courtesy of these multiplayer modes. Take that, Jediknight49.

Deathmatch

Rocket launchers, bowie knives and uzi drive-bys; Deathmatch is epic and pure, unspoilt carnage. Crouch and duck behind cover to stealth from the radar, or find a big van and go in all guns blazing.

Cops 'n Crooks

This is the ultimate team mode in GTA IV's massive online roster. 16-players face it off in a cops and robbers showdown. The Crooks have to escape to the harbour with the boss player alive, the cops have to stop them. Spectacular shootouts ahoy.

Mafiya Work

PSP players will remember this one from Vice City Stories; basically, players scramble alone or in teams to complete mission tasks around Liberty City. These could range from assassinations to dope pick-ups - get the boys round and get on it.

GTA Race

Take a break from the carnage for a friendly Liberty City race... with guns. GTA IV's more realistic handling makes for some standout competitions, especially the course that has you tearing through the airport terminal on motorbikes. Awesome.

Hangman's Noose

The real meat of GTA IV's co-op game modes, and also the most stunning. Four players take on the entire Liberty City police force, doing whatever it takes to escort NPC crime lord Kenny Petrovic to safety. With vans, choppers and armoured cars, the action well and truly kicks off.
