HP iPaq HX2750
A PDA as secure as a nun's knickers.
If, like Paris Hilton, you've got secrets to hide and tend to keep them stored on your PDA, then this might very well be the Pocket PC for you. That's because HP's latest offering has a built-in fingerprint reader that'll keep your data safe as long as some gangster doesn't decide to take a pair of pliers to your pinkie.
Of course there have been plenty of other PDAs with built-in biometric security, but this is the first one to do the job properly. The scanner is easy to use, fast and seems to have a very high success rate.
The machine is impressive in other ways too. It's got a 624MHz Intel processor, which is currently the fastest available on any Pocket PC, and there's 128MB of Flash ROM and 128MB of RAM, so you won't be stuck for storage space. On top of this there's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support and both SD and CF card slots are provided.
However, the 2750 looks and feels a tad chunky and the design is much more functional than flash. For example, the rubberised sides make it easier to grip, but also make it look like it's designed for industrial use rather than for the man on the street. On such a pricey PDA it's also disappointing to find that the screen, although amazingly bright and easy to read, has only QVGA resolution.
So while HP has packed plenty of technology into the 2750, the low screen resolution and chunky design mean it's more suited to business suits than the rest of us.
